THE GREEN CHOICE

THE CHOICE OF HAVING A MINIMAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT IN CONSTRUCTION

Quality of life depends on many factors, but the environment and the ecosystem in which we live play an essential role. There is an increasing awareness of how respect for nature and following a healthy lifestyle can bring tangible benefits for our health and vitality.

Green building is a science and a way of approaching the design and construction of homes, respecting the ecosystem and human health. In the past our ancestors were already building with natural materials: the wood from the forests, the rocks from the mountains, the earth and straw from the hills…

The ecological construction industry was born in response to major environmental disasters for which construction is partly to blame. Experience shows that a well designed and properly built home is the easiest and least expensive method of protecting our environment.

Green building considers the cornerstone of the process of building homes to be natural materials that are biodegradable and easily recyclable, such as: wood, cork, cotton, linen, wool and wood fibre insulation. These materials, already present in nature and free of harmful substances, come from a correct and responsible extraction and from processing with a low environmental impact.

Consumers concerned about the environment and sustainability can find in our collections and in our production phases a great care and respect for nature: from the natural raw materials from nearby sources, to the vinyl glues, natural oils and waxes, to the renewable energy resources used in our productive process.

Wood is a natural, unique and irreplaceable element that has always been part of our lives. Versatility, adaptability, lightness, thermal resistance: these are some of the many benefits of using wood. With wood you can create functional and aesthetic customized structures. An element that, like few others, suits the artistic and design needs of man, at the same time providing benefits for quality of life within wooden living spaces.

In this respect, CADORIN can offer a GREEN BUILDING HANDBOOK, a true CONSUMER GUIDE for choosing wood. This HANDBOOK helps the consumer to choose a more SUSTAINABLE floor, and with clear requirements the floor is classified with a score:

► a) the ORIGIN

1. The supply is CLOSE to the Cadorin production site (within 700 km): for a reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere

2. supplying from Chains of Custody (FSC® o PEFC™): for a sustainability of forests

3. recovery of old beams: Antique!! to refresh the wood a second time and avoiding cutting down other trees.

► b) the plank STRUCTURE

THREE LAYERS FIR: these structure consists of a support in Fir and Larch, with a wood supply within 150-300 km from the Cadorin production site (reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere) in addition to the use of vinyl glues for the manufacturing of the element.

► c) the FINISHING

NATURAL OIL and/or WAXES for the finishing and protection of the wood.

This sustainable building ranking (according to the Green Building Rating System LEED® NC ITALIA 2009 and GBC HOME) allows for the awarding of GREEN STARS (up to 6) and of the GREEN CERTIFICATION attesting the FINAL RESULT. And it’s the CUSTOMER who does this by making their choice! More Green Stars are CHOSEN and the more the CONSUMER can PARTICIPATE and HELP to install a Green product in their own home!
